N64 Retrospective
As usual I was late in getting the N64 only this time around I got it when it was still fresh and current. I remember going to Woolworths and seeing Pokemon Stadium up on the TV screens around the counter, I wanted it so badly. A week or so later my Dad came home and showed me some money and said ''is that enough?'' I leapt for joy and we headed to Woolworths.
I don't think the Pokemon Stadium edition of the console was out at the time but regardless I got a purple N64 and Pokemon Stadium which was either £120 or £130. Wow, imagine having to spend that little on a games console these days! I loved looking in the old Argos catalogues in DT classes at middle school and looking at the 1997 releases for Megadrive games.
Anyway moving on, in this day and age I release just how bad and shallow Pokemon Stadium is outside of some fun multiplayer mingames. Still it was the start of my gaming experience on my first Nintendo console.
Next up I got Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I was blown away. I got in the mail and played for probably 8-12 hours, I just couldn't stop the game was incredible I don't think I've been the same since. After Zelda I got games like Bomberman, Turok Rage Wars, Blast Corps, Revolt, WWF No Mercy, the kind of games which you'd expect someone to have.
I loved ocarina of time but couldn't afford Majora's Mask and don't own it to this very day. My favourite game was Banjo Tooie which I stupidly sold when I didn't play games anymore and this was years before I collected. At the same time I ripped off a load of sellotape from my N64 which were taped up without me knowing/asking.
I was a lot younger than I am now mind you, but I still regret it. Most of my boxes survived, some with minor damage but some have extensive rips on the cardboard like Blast Corps which you can see in the picture. Besides that game Perfect Dark and Zelda have rips going across the side of the box.
What annoys me is how rare and expensive these games are, I can barely find any at car boot sales. I bought 4 at a good price from Ebay and won a few auctions for Turok games where nobody else bidded. Apart from those few instances I'm very annoyed that after a whole year of going to car boot sales almost every weekend I have only found a handful of boxed games for the system.

Retrospective Continued
Mario Tennis was a favourite of mine, I was pretty good at it too. Using Shy Guy I could get an ace most times, I also loved unlocking the different courts, they never seemed to end! Turok Rage Wars was also a game which I thoroughly enjoyed, mainly because of the blood and the guns. Nothing compares to seeing 3d violence for the first time when you're a kid and know you shouldn't be playing games of that kind.
As for the cerebral bore? A device which when fired drills it's way through your foe's head! The multiplayer aspect in Rage Wars was awesome because of the customisation. If I wanted to start with the cerebral bore then I could. You can also customise your opponents and the game modes are varied enough.
The campaign gets harder the more characters that you unlock. You don't just play as humans either, you can also play as ''mites'' and dinosaurs (only one type, three varieties). It was a very fun, challenging and engaging game and is still worth popping in and playing to this very day.
The game which I enjoyed the most with other people was probably Mario Party, I loved that game, me and my friend would go nuts on it. It captivated you, it had this charm which no other game quite had. Goldeneye was also pretty good, I don't rate the multiplayer much as I would mainly take turns on campaign mode. I don't think fans of Goldeneye liked TWINE (the world is not enough) but I loved that game so much. I completed that game which, for the amount of levels it had wasn't a common thing for me to do back then.
The cheats in Goldeneye were incredible. If you use the invisibility cheat, shoot off a guard's hat on the archives level then run up into the attic. You can do this with every enemy in the game. Some will stand there and do nothing, some will run around but for the most part you can gather up every enemy on the level and store them all in the attic, weird.
I also remember on a site called supercheats which back in the day was infamous for inaccurate informations regarding cheats, told me to shoot off every enemies hat on the train level and then shoot Trevelyan's hat at the end and the spice girls would pop up. If they thought of a more plausible effect to happen other than the spice girls more people may have attempted it. I however knew that Trevelyan doesn't even wear a hat...
So there's not too much more to say other than that the N64 is a fantastic console, I don't care for the controller much but the multiplayer aspect is undeniably the best multiplayer gaming experience ever. It's nice to look back to the good old days of splitscreen, having 4 friends huddle round a tiny TV for some Mario Party. Or just being able to enjoy games with your friends in the same room!
I plan on getting a lot of titles for the N64 but as aforementioned they're just too rare. If only people knew this and held onto the boxes/kept them in better condition. So the hunt continues!
